Initial Psychiatric Evaluation for Adults aged 18+

We will meet for a face to face conversation which generally lasts about an hour. As a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, it is my job to listen to your concerns, provide support and education and to also develop a treatment plan that  is focused on meeting individualized positive goals. Towards the end of our session, I will provide a summary of our plan and you will leave with resources  and tools for growth and positive outcomes. Your plan may look different from others, and may include medication management, psychotherapy, or both.  In most cases, multiple tools are used to achieve positive, stable, long term results.

The purpose of a pediatric psychiatric evaluation is to identify the current mental status and any signs or symptoms the adolescent may be experiencing from a mental health issue.

Being able to determine the severity of these symptoms is critical in forming the appropriate treatment plan and building a comprehensive path to move forward. Pediatric consultations often require additional time, and the child will be interviewed with their caregivers present and without. In home consultations are available on a case by case basis and are priced separately. Prescreening is required for pediatric psychiatric evaluations and the provider may ask to speak with all the child’s caregivers as well as their coaches and academic leaders. It is important to see the full picture, and understand the emotional, behavioral and developmental stage in which the adolescent is experiencing.

Follow-up appointments are generally shorter in duration (about 30 minutes), with a focus on making medication adjustments, reviewing potential medication interactions, considering the impact of other medical disorders on the patient’s mental and emotional functioning, and counselling patients regarding changes they might make to facilitate healing and remission of symptoms.
